Privacy Policy

Effective October 5, 2026. The short version: there is no account, we collect no personal data through the app, and this website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The exercises, the Evening Examination and the calendar run entirely in your browser; the only text the site sends to us is a line you paste into the quote checker, which is compared with the texts and not stored.

This Privacy Policy explains how the Stoic Practice app for iPhone, and this website (practicestoicism.com), handle information. Stoic Practice is published by Kaizen Apps (“we,” “us,” “our”). The app is built so that your practice stays with you: there is no account, we run no server for the app, and we do not collect personal data through the app. This policy describes what is stored on your iPhone, the few cases where information leaves it because you choose to send it, what happens when you visit this website, and what you can do about each.

The short version

  • There is no account, no login and no sign-up.
  • We collect no personal data through the app. Its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected.”
  • Your journal and everything you write in the app stay on your iPhone. We never see them.
  • No tracking, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs in the app.
  • This website sets no cookies and loads no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Anything you type into an exercise on this website stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple. We never receive your payment details, name or email address from Apple.
  • You can delete your journal, reflections, bookmarks and progress at any time with Delete All Data in the app’s Settings, or remove all of the app’s data by deleting the app.

Information we do not collect

The Stoic Practice app does not send us any information. There is no account, and we run no server for the app to send data to. The app works offline.

Through the app, we do not collect:

  • your name, email address or any other contact details
  • your journal, reflections or anything else you write
  • usage analytics, diagnostics or crash reports (the app contains no code that collects them)
  • advertising identifiers or device identifiers
  • your location, contacts, photos or health information
  • payment details

The app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. It contains no advertising, no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs and no other third-party SDKs, and it loads no remote content. Its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected,” and its privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data.

Information stored on your device

To work, the app keeps some information on your iPhone, in its own private storage (a local database and the app’s preferences). This information stays on your device. We cannot see it, and the app does not send it anywhere.

  • Journal entries: your Morning Practice reflection and intention, your Evening Examination answers, the virtues you selected and your resolution for tomorrow.
  • I Need Perspective sessions: if you tap Save Reflection, your responses and your next action are kept. If you finish an exercise without saving, the app keeps only a record of which exercise you completed and when, with none of your text, so that it still counts as practice. If you leave an exercise partway through, nothing you typed is kept.
  • Bookmarks: the teachings, practices and passages you save.
  • Progress: your place in the curriculum and the dates you practiced, which the app uses for your journal history, current streak, days practiced, mornings and evenings.
  • Preferences: whether you have finished the introduction, whether morning and evening reminders are on and their times, and your appearance setting (System, Light or Dark).
  • Dates the app uses to pace itself: the date you first used the app, and the dates of the last review request, last purchase, last error, last time notification permission was declined and last backup export, along with whether the reminder suggestion has been handled. These help the app avoid asking for things too often. They contain nothing you wrote.

Nothing you type in “Try It Now” in the Practice Library is stored.

The app does not sync your data between devices through iCloud or any other service. Like other app data, this information may be included in your own iCloud Backup or computer backup of your iPhone, depending on your settings. iCloud Backups are stored by Apple under your settings and Apple’s terms. Computer backups stay on your own computer.

Backups you export and import

The app creates a backup file only when you tap Export My Data in the Settings tab. The file is named like StoicPractice-Backup-2026-10-04.json and contains your journal entries, saved Perspective reflections, records of completed exercises, bookmarks, progress, appearance setting and reminder times. It does not contain any purchase information.

The app hands the file to the iOS share sheet, and you choose where it goes, for example Files, AirDrop, email or a cloud storage service. We never receive it. Once you save or send the file somewhere, it is handled by that place under its own terms.

Backup files are not encrypted by the app. Anyone who can open the file can read what is in it, so keep it somewhere you trust.

Import Backup reads a backup file you choose and merges it into the app on your iPhone. Before anything is written, the app shows what will change. If a file cannot be read or is not a valid Stoic Practice backup, it is rejected and your existing data is not changed. Reminder times and the appearance setting in the backup are used only where you have not already changed them on this iPhone. Importing never turns reminders on; only you can do that.

Purchases and subscriptions

Premium subscriptions are sold and processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, using Apple’s StoreKit system. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. To unlock Premium, the app checks Apple-signed transaction information on your iPhone. It does not send that information to us.

We never receive your payment details, name or email address. Apple provides developers with sales and subscription reports, which we use to understand how the app is doing. Apple handles all of this under the Apple Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).

You manage or cancel your subscription in the subscription settings for your Apple Account. Refunds are handled by Apple.

Reminders

Morning and evening reminders are optional. They are local notifications, scheduled by iOS on your iPhone at the times you choose. There is no push server, and nothing about your reminders is sent to us.

The app asks for notification permission only when you turn a reminder on. You can turn reminders off in the app’s Settings tab, or withdraw notification permission at any time in the iPhone Settings app under Notifications.

Ratings prompt

After meaningful, repeated use, the app may ask iOS to show Apple’s standard rating prompt. Apple decides whether the prompt actually appears, and limits how often. You can also choose Rate This App in the app’s Settings, which opens the App Store. Any rating or review you submit goes to Apple and is handled under Apple’s terms. We can see reviews that are published on the App Store, as anyone can.

Contacting support

If you choose Contact Support or Request a Feature in the app’s Settings, your mail app opens a message to gpmediacontact@gmail.com, prefilled with:

  • the app name
  • the app version and build
  • your iOS version
  • the general device type (for example, “iPhone”)

Nothing else is attached, and your journal text is never included. You can read, change or delete any of it, and nothing is sent until you tap Send. If your iPhone can’t open an email, the app copies our address so you can write to us from the email app you use.

When you email us or call us, we receive whatever you send or say, including your email address or phone number and anything you choose to write or attach. We use it only to respond to you and to improve the app. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell or share your message.

We keep support messages only as long as we need them to answer you and to consider your feedback. You can ask us to delete your messages at any time by writing to gpmediacontact@gmail.com.

This website

practicestoicism.com is hosted by Vercel. To deliver and secure the website, Vercel processes technical information about each visit, such as your IP address, your browser’s user agent and the pages you request, as described in the Vercel Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab). We use this information only as it is needed to run and protect the website.

The website itself:

  • sets no cookies;
  • loads no analytics, advertising, tracking or other third-party scripts, and no third-party fonts (its fonts are served from the website itself);
  • has no account, newsletter or sign-up form.

The exercises on this website run entirely in your browser. What you type into I Need Perspective, the Evening Examination or any other tool on this site stays in your browser’s memory for that page. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, it is not saved, and it disappears when you leave or reload the page. If you choose Copy my notes, your browser places the text on your device’s clipboard; nothing is sent anywhere.

Two optional choices are remembered in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. We never receive them:

  • Appearance. If you choose Light or Dark under Appearance, that choice is stored so the site looks the same on your next visit. Choosing System removes it.
  • Keep tonight’s answers on this device. If you tick this box after the Evening Examination, your answers are stored in this browser until the next day, then deleted the next time you open the examination. Untick the box to delete them at once.

You can also clear both at any time in your browser’s settings for this site.

The quote checker sends the words you paste to our website, inside the request rather than in the page address, so they can be compared with the public-domain translations. The result is returned to you; the text is not stored or logged by us.

Download buttons on this website link to the Stoic Practice page on Apple’s App Store. When you follow one, Apple’s website or App Store app handles your visit under Apple’s terms and the Apple Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab). On iPhone, Safari may show Apple’s Smart App Banner for the app at the top of the page; Safari displays it, and it sends us nothing.

Some pages link to other websites, such as Project Gutenberg for the source texts. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

The app’s Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Support links may also open copies of these pages hosted on GitHub Pages (gabrielwpetersen.github.io). GitHub may collect technical information such as IP addresses when you visit them, as described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement (opens in a new tab).

Third parties

The app contains no third-party SDKs. We do not sell or rent personal information, and the only outside parties involved are these:

  • Apple provides the App Store, processes purchases through StoreKit, and provides the iOS features the app relies on, such as local notifications and device backups. You use these under your own relationship with Apple and Apple’s Privacy Policy. The app does not send your journal or other app data to Apple. If you have chosen in the Settings app on your iPhone to share analytics with app developers, Apple may also give us aggregated App Store statistics and crash reports that are not linked to your identity.
  • Vercel hosts this website, and GitHub hosts the copies of these pages linked from the app. See This website.
  • Our email provider stores the messages you send to our support address so that we can read and answer them, under its own privacy terms.

Data retention and deletion

Information the app stores on your iPhone stays there until you delete it. You can remove it in any of these ways:

  • Delete All Data: in the app’s Settings tab, tap Delete All Data and confirm twice. This permanently removes your journal entries, saved Perspective reflections, bookmarks, progress, reminder and appearance settings, and any scheduled or delivered reminders from your iPhone. It cannot be undone, so export a backup first if you want to keep a copy. A few of the housekeeping dates described above, and the record that you finished the introduction, remain until you delete the app. They contain nothing you wrote.
  • Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone.
  • Device backups: an iCloud Backup or computer backup made before you deleted your data may still contain it until that backup is deleted or replaced. Those backups are under your control.
  • Exported backup files remain wherever you saved or sent them. Delete them there if you no longer want them.

Deleting your data or the app does not cancel a subscription. Subscriptions are managed by Apple in the subscription settings for your Apple Account.

Support messages are kept only as long as we need them to answer you and to consider your feedback, as described in Contacting support. Nothing you type into this website’s tools is kept by us. The only things the website ever keeps are the two optional choices stored in your own browser, described in This website.

Your choices and rights

You decide what the app keeps. Writing is always optional, reminders are optional, and you can export or delete your data at any time from the app’s Settings. You can withdraw notification permission at any time in the iPhone Settings app.

Because we hold no data from the app, we have nothing to access, correct, export or delete. You can do all of that yourself on your iPhone.

If you have emailed or called us, you can ask to see the messages we hold from you, to correct them, to have them deleted, to restrict or object to our use of them, or to receive a copy of them. Write to gpmediacontact@gmail.com and we will respond.

These choices apply wherever you live, including where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation or California privacy law gives you rights over your personal information. Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we handle support messages on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering the messages you send us, and you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not use personal information for targeted advertising. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

Children

Stoic Practice and this website are not directed to children under 13. The app collects no personal data from anyone, including children. If you believe a child under 13 has contacted us, let us know and we will delete the message.

Security

Your data in the app is protected by the security built into iOS. iOS keeps each app’s data in its own sandbox, separate from other apps. iOS also encrypts the data stored on your iPhone, and when you set a passcode, Data Protection ties that encryption to it. Using a passcode is one of the best ways to protect your journal.

Exported backup files are not encrypted by the app. Keep them somewhere safe, and be careful about where you send them.

This website is served only over HTTPS.

No method of storing information is perfectly secure, but because the app sends nothing to us and the website’s tools keep nothing, there is no copy of your writing on any server of ours to be exposed.

International users

Stoic Practice can be used in many countries. Because the app sends no data to us, using it does not involve transferring your information to us anywhere. If you email us, your message is delivered to and stored by our email provider, which may store it in a country other than yours. When you visit this website, Vercel may process the technical information described above in a country other than yours. We handle information as described in this policy wherever it is processed.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If a change is material, for example if the app were ever to begin collecting data or this website were to begin using analytics, we will say so clearly on this page and update the app’s App Store privacy information.

Contact

If you have a question about this policy or about your information, email gpmediacontact@gmail.com, call 253-338-5428, or choose Contact Support in the app’s Settings.

You can also read the Terms of Use or visit Support.
