Contact us

Email gpmediacontact@gmail.com with a question or a problem, or call 253-338-5428. Feature requests are welcome too.

Inside the app, open the Settings tab and choose Contact Support or Request a Feature. Either one opens an email to us with a few details already filled in: the app name, the app version and build, your iOS version and the general device type (for example, “iPhone”). Nothing else is attached, and your journal text is never included. You can read or change the message before you send it.

Daily practice

How does the 365-day curriculum work?

Each Morning Practice offers one teaching from a 365-day curriculum arranged in 13 units. The curriculum moves forward only when you complete a Morning Practice, and at most once per local calendar day. Opening the app again, or repeating the practice on the same day, does not move you ahead.

What happens if I miss a day, or several?

Nothing piles up and nothing is skipped. When you return, you continue right where you left off. After a gap, the app simply says “Welcome back.” It never uses guilt.

What happens after Day 365?

The practice continues as Year 2, beginning with the first teaching, so you meet each one again with another year of experience behind you. With Premium, you can also browse the full archive of teachings at any time.

Why is the teaching on this website different from the one in my app?

The website’s daily teaching follows the calendar (January 1 is Day 1). In the app, “Day 12” means your twelfth completed Morning Practice, so your place depends on your own practice, not the date.

What is in the free Morning Practice, and what does Premium add?

The free Morning Practice includes the day’s source passage, “In Plain English” (a short explanation of the passage), Today’s Practice, and marking the day complete. Premium adds the full guided sequence: deeper commentary (“Going Deeper”), a closer look at the day’s principle, a reflection prompt and a daily intention.

Do I have to write anything?

No. Writing is always optional, in the Morning Practice, in I Need Perspective and in the Evening Examination. You can read, think and complete each practice without typing a word.

I Need Perspective and Evening Examination

Which I Need Perspective exercises are free?

There are 12 guided exercises for difficult moments. Three are free for everyone, in the app and on this website: Anger, Worry and Outside My Control. The other nine are included with Premium in the app: Setback, Difficult Person, Procrastination, Fear, Overwhelm, Jealousy, Loss, Uncertainty and Difficult Decision.

Each exercise offers a sourced teaching and ends with a concrete next action. Most also help you separate what is up to you from what is not.

Do I need to do the Morning Practice before the Evening Examination?

No. The Evening Examination is free for everyone and available at any time, with or without a Morning Practice that day. It asks what went well, what you could do better, what disturbed you that was outside your control, which of the four virtues (wisdom, courage, justice, temperance) you practiced, and what you resolve for tomorrow. There is no score. The next morning, Today shows “Last night you wrote…” with your resolution.

Are my reflections saved?

In the app, your Morning Practice and Evening Examination writing is kept in your Journal on your iPhone. Evening answers are saved as you type. In I Need Perspective, what you write is kept only if you tap Save Reflection at the end. If you finish without saving, or leave partway through, your text is not kept. A finished exercise still counts as practice either way. Nothing you write in “Try It Now” in the Practice Library is stored.

On this website, nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere. Use Copy my answers at the end of an exercise if you want to keep them.

Subscriptions

What does Premium include, and what does it cost?

Premium includes the full guided Morning Practice (deeper commentary, a closer look at the day’s principle, a reflection prompt and a daily intention), all 12 I Need Perspective exercises, the complete Practice Library of 12 practices, and the full archive of 365 daily teachings.

Premium is an auto-renewable subscription: $6.99 per month or $39.99 per year in the United States. Prices in other countries are set by the App Store and shown in the app before you buy. There is no free trial, no introductory offer, no lifetime purchase and no advertising.

Without Premium, you keep the core Morning Practice, the Evening Examination, three Perspective exercises, three library practices (Dichotomy of Control, Four Virtues and Evening Examination), your Journal, reminders, and data export and import.

How do I restore my purchase?

Make sure your iPhone is signed in to the same Apple Account you used to subscribe. Then, in the app, open the Settings tab and tap Restore Purchases. The same button also appears on the subscription screen. If the app reports that no active subscription was found, check which Apple Account you are signed in to, and whether the subscription is still active in your subscription settings.

How do I cancel or change my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions and choose Stoic Practice. While you are subscribed, you can also open the app’s Settings tab and tap Manage Subscription. A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I request a refund?

Payments are processed by Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com (opens in a new tab). We are not able to issue refunds ourselves, but we are glad to help with any problem in the app.

What happens to my journal if Premium ends?

Nothing you have written is deleted. Your journal, saved reflections and bookmarks are never locked behind Premium, so they stay available to read with or without a subscription. The Premium parts of the practice become unavailable until you subscribe again. Everything that is free continues to work.

Your data

Where is my journal stored?

Only on your iPhone, in the app’s private storage. There is no account, no login and no server of ours. The app works offline. There is no automatic sync between devices. Like other app data, your journal may be included in your own iCloud Backup or computer backup of your iPhone, depending on your settings.

How do I move my journal to a new iPhone?

The most dependable way is a backup file:

  1. On your old iPhone, open the Settings tab and tap Export My Data.
  2. Send the file somewhere you can reach from the new iPhone, such as Files, AirDrop or email.
  3. On the new iPhone, install Stoic Practice, open the Settings tab, tap Import Backup and choose the file.

If you set up the new iPhone from an iCloud Backup or a computer backup of your old one, your app data may come across with it. Exporting a backup first is still a good precaution. Premium is tied to your Apple Account, not to the backup file. On the new iPhone, tap Restore Purchases if needed.

How do I export or import a backup?

Export: in the Settings tab, tap Export My Data. The app creates a file named like StoicPractice-Backup-2026-10-04.json and opens the share sheet so you can save or send it wherever you choose. The file contains your entries, saved reflections, bookmarks and progress. It does not contain purchase information. Backup files are not encrypted by the app, so keep them somewhere you trust.

Import: in the Settings tab, tap Import Backup and choose a backup file. Before anything is written, the app shows what the file contains and what will change. Importing merges the backup with what is already on your iPhone. Nothing is deleted, and where the same record exists in both, the more recently edited version is kept. If a file can’t be read or isn’t a valid Stoic Practice backup, the import is stopped and your existing data is not changed.

How do I delete my data?

In the Settings tab, tap Delete All Data and confirm twice. This permanently removes your journal entries, saved Perspective reflections, bookmarks, progress, reminder and appearance settings, and scheduled reminders from your iPhone. It cannot be undone, so export a backup first if you want to keep a copy. A few housekeeping dates, and the record that you finished the introduction, remain until you delete the app. They contain nothing you wrote. Deleting your data does not cancel a subscription, which is managed by Apple.

Is anything sent to you?

No. We run no server, and the app sends nothing to us. There are no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. Purchases are handled by Apple, and we never receive your payment details, name or email address from them. The only time we hear from you is when you choose to contact us. For the full details, read the Privacy Policy.

Reminders and settings

My reminders aren’t arriving. What should I check?

  • In the app’s Settings tab, check that Morning Reminder or Evening Reminder is on and set to the time you expect.
  • In the iPhone Settings app, go to Notifications > Stoic Practice and make sure Allow Notifications is on.
  • A Focus, such as Do Not Disturb or Sleep, can silence notifications. In the Settings app, open Focus, choose the Focus you use and allow Stoic Practice, or turn the Focus off.
  • If you use a Scheduled Summary, notifications may be delivered later as part of the summary. You can change this in Settings > Notifications.
  • If you recently used Delete All Data, your reminders were removed. Turn them on again in the app.

Reminders are local notifications created on your iPhone. The app asks for notification permission only when you turn a reminder on. If permission was declined, the reminder switches back off until you allow notifications in the Settings app.

Can I use Dark Mode, larger text or VoiceOver?

Yes. In the app’s Settings tab, under Appearance, choose System, Light or Dark. Stoic Practice follows the text size set on your iPhone (Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size, or Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text). The app includes VoiceOver labels, respects Reduce Motion, and uses higher-contrast colors when Increase Contrast is on.

About the teachings

Where do the quotations come from?

Direct quotations are exact excerpts from public-domain English translations, checked word for word against the digitized texts: George Long’s translation of Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations (1862), George Long’s translation of Epictetus’s Discourses and Enchiridion (1877), and Aubrey Stewart’s translations of Seneca’s dialogues (1889) and On Benefits (1887). Where material is left out, the omission is marked with an ellipsis (…). Explanations, commentary and exercises are modern writing, always presented separately from the ancient text. Read more on how we source the Stoics.

Why are some passages labeled as paraphrases?

Seneca’s Letters to Lucilius and the lectures of Musonius Rufus are important Stoic sources, but the common English translations are not in the public domain worldwide. Rather than quote them, the app offers original modern paraphrases, clearly labeled as such. Some familiar names for practices are also later labels: “amor fati” is Nietzsche’s phrase, and “dichotomy of control” is a modern name.
